# Add a PayPal account

This process describes how to add a PayPal account to the Rebilly sandbox and live environments.

1. Select from the following:
Add PayPal to the Rebilly sandbox environment  - By default, reference transactions are active in the Rebilly sandbox environment.
  - To connect a PayPal gateway account in the Rebilly sandbox environment, you must have PayPal sandbox credentials.

  1. Locate your sandbox log in credentials in PayPal.

Take note of the **Email ID**, and **System generated password** values.
  2. [Log in to your Rebilly sandbox environment](https://app-sandbox.rebilly.com/).
Add PayPal to the Rebilly live environmentTo use PayPal in the Rebilly live environment, reference transactions must be active in PayPal. If this is not already active, contact your PayPal account manager to activate it.
  1. [Log in to your Rebilly live environment](https://app.rebilly.com/).
2. In the left navigation bar, press .
3. In the **Configuration** section, press **Gateway accounts**.
4. Press **Add gateway account**, and then select **PayPal**.
5. In the **Gateway account ID** field, enter a unique alphanumeric value. Use a value that is easy to recognize in your reports. This ID is used in other configuration screens, and is how this account is referenced within the API.
6. In the **Select currencies** field, enter the currencies that your PayPal account supports.
7. Optionally, [configure advanced gateway settings](/docs/settings/set-up-a-gateway).
8. Press **Save gateway account**.
9. You are redirected to a PayPal log in screen. To connect your PayPal account, enter your business PayPal account credentials.
